Biden administration officials condemned the online harassment campaign against a Wall Street Journal reporter who questioned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about human rights during a White House press conference last week.
"It’s completely unacceptable and it's antithetical to the very principles of democracy that were on display last week during the state visit," National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said of the online trolling aimed at White House reporter Sabrina Siddiqui.
During a press conference at the White House, Siddiqui raised concerns about religious minority rights and freedom of speech in India.
It was also PM Modi's first press conference as Prime Minister.
