The 31-mile 1066 Country Walk in East Sussex leads you gently through a landscape that witnessed the Battle of Hastings and whose castles and culture bear testimony to the Norman conquest.
Starting at the landing place of William of Normandy near Pevensey Castle, it passes Herstmonceux Castle, the historic 1066 Battle Abbey and Battlefield, medieval Winchelsea and ends in the picturesque citadel of Rye.
The High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty surrounds you, a typical medieval landscape of rolling hills, valleys and vineyards, with cosy pubs and cafés along the way. Ten sculptures on the route are inspired by the Bayeux Tapestry and there are places for you to spend the night and wake fortified for the next few miles!
