In his first game for Gilas Pilipinas, Justin Brownlee performed exceptionally well in front of his idol, NBA star Carmelo Anthony.
Brownlee, who considers Anthony and LeBron James his childhood heroes, was thrilled to see Anthony watching the game from the stands. Anthony is currently serving as an ambassador for the World Cup, which will be held in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia in August. Brownlee's performance was impressive, scoring 17 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals, which contributed to the team's 107-96 win over Lebanon. Brownlee reflected on the experience, saying it was like reliving his childhood memories of watching Anthony play on TV. Brownlee and Anthony almost became teammates when Brownlee signed a training camp deal with the New York Knicks in 2013. However, the Knicks eventually waived Brownlee, while Anthony remained with the team.
