This animation produced by C.R. Scotese, PALEOMAP Project illustrates the breakup of Rodinia (750 Ma) and the formation of the modern Pacific Ocean (180 Ma). In this animation views the Earth from the "backside" or Pacific region, that is why Pangea appears on the edge of the map. The black dots are late Precambrian tillite localities (600 Ma). The red shape (500 Ma) is the Precordillera terrane. The colored lines are sea floor spreading lineations (previous locations of the mid ocean ridges). Please cite as: Scotese, C.R., 2014.
