G-d already said in the Torah that He didn't choose us because of our size being that we're the smallest of the nations. More is not better, and G-d looks at the quality of the Jewish nation over quantity. We don't proselytize because it's hard to be a Jew, and, as the Chosen Nation, G-d expects more from us and takes us to task if we don't follow His laws. We're concerned that one without Jewish roots might not be able to withstand the pressure, and once a Jew always a Jew.
