Danielle Southwell is a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patient who lives in Ladysmith. Before the Telehealth Program was launched, she had to travel to Victoria to see her neurologist. Now, she is able to travel a short distance to Parksville to see her own MS nurse.
Vancouver Island and Island Health are Canadian leaders in Telehealth. This is the first MS clinic in Canada to use virtual technology, which is now a fully funded and sustainable program of Island Health. Almost half of the 2000 active MS clinic patients on Vancouver Island can access this program from Central and North Island rural areas.
