Some 10,000 people have fled Kunduz after Taliban fighters stormed the northern city on Monday.
The Taliban has taken up positions in residential areas, and civilians are caught in the crossfire with at least nine people killed and more than 200 wounded.
Fighters also attacked the main hospital in the region, and most of the medical staff were forced to flee.
The Afghan military has been backed by NATO air support during the fighting.
