During the Second World War, there were many different people who defected over to their country's enemies. Some people became spy, but there were a number of British people who flocked to Germany and the Third Reich and one of these was William Joyce. Joyce had been a member of the BUF and was well known, but just as the war broke out as the Germans invaded Poland, he fled to Germany. He initially struggled for work, but he then became a broadcaster and would create Nazi Propaganda which would be then broadcasted to British audiences. Because of his upper class accent, he became known as Lord Haw Haw, an infamous nickname associated with Joyce's attempts to demoralise the British public.
Lord Haw Haw's programme was known as 'Germany's Calling,' and in this he would talk trash against the British war effort, and would talk about the Second World War and different advancements made by the Germans. In Britain the news was heavily censored, but Haw Haw tried to make it seem like the British were losing. He made his final broadcast on the same day that Hitler died as Berlin was under heavy fire from the Red Army, and he was drunk in this radio show. But shortly he was then captured by the British and was taken back to London and was placed on trial accused of 3 counts of treason. He was found guilty, and was then executed by Albert Pierrepoint inside of Wandsworth Prison.
