Artistic Puzzle

rain calms the old window
life is scattered, messy
like this puzzle
on the hardwood floor
resting on mahogany
we piece together, the doubt
I tell you it’s defective
but you reach out
you create a masterpiece
from simple want — desire
what a beautiful thought
art can fix something lost
you draw the branch
I smile — I admire you
like that memory
when you swung your knees
into the breeze, and said
“watch me, I got this”
you hit the grain of summer
taller than the tree
heart deeper than the sea
and you said “ believe me”
you lean into art
free inspiration
from the palm of your hand
allowing the glow in your soul
to radiate — more light
and create, more worth
than all of the stars
combined
even if you don’t feel it
you are divine
you color the missing
hints of green
your dark thoughts
shade in the sky
sun ripening mine
we all have our faults — the flaw
the absent corner
of our picture
where darkness waits
for positive insight
lighter perspective
you outline the curves
cut paper into new life
using your mind
and with each movement
solution
is revealed
evolving
the puzzle is complete
you say it’s perfect
I say nothing is perfect
hope stares at me
in-between lines
and I begin to think
you’re right
