Advice from planning expert Tim Berry:
You might not need this. The Executive Summary is important if you have outside readers (potential partners or team members, investors, lenders), but it isn't critical if you're creating an internal plan for yourself.
If you do need it, it's the most important part of the plan. Especially with funders, you can expect that some readers will read ONLY the Executive Summary. Cover your main points very briefly. Summarize. And remember to tailor the highlights toward your reader's interest.
Do it last. This is all summaries and highlights of other sections of the plan, so it's much easier to write it if you've already thought through those issues in the detailed sections of the plan.
