The chop was insane!
Dylan and I took our Mini Boats out to the jetty in Alameda on a windy day. I had been warned about how crazy the water in the San Francisco Bay can get, and this definitely felt like crazy.
We worked our way down the jetty on the non-protected side. I was very hesitant to continue, but Dylan was determined to make it all the way. The tip of the jetty was insane, with white-water chop as high as 3.5 feet and moving in all directions. Dylan blasted right through the most insane part, and I followed closely behind.
Take note of how Dylan completely disappears 3 times behind the waves. That's all I was focused on when I was following behind him. I was terrified.
I thought we were going swimming for sure. There were gnarly rocks on one side and gnarly chop on the other, so it would have been a pretty sketchy swim. Fortunately, the Mini Boats got us through it. If the boats were any larger, I actually think we would have flipped, because the frequency of the chop was perfectly suited for such a tiny boat. Like a buoy in the ocean.
After we got around the gnarliest bit, we both had about 1/2" of standing water in our boats. If I'm going to be doing more of this I should definitely install my bilge pump.
