Paralytic Ileus are intestinal paralysis, is caused by most of times post operatively it'll be when we handle the intestines and all they go in for temporary paralysis. That's why for a few hours to few days after major surgeries in the abdomen the intestines may not be moving. That's why you keep them on empty stomach for a day or two. There are other metabolic diseases wherein the potassium if it is low level in the blood then again the movements of the bowel will be affected and it becomes slow and it may even completely stop. So when the intestines are not moving then it is called paralytic ileus or paralysis. So that time you will not be able to take food whatever you take it will be staying in the stomach and they start vomiting and there will be no passage of gas or motions and all. They look like intestinal obstruction but it is not obstruction because intestines are not moving so they get all that distension of the abdomen vomiting and all that. It's a dangerous condition it has to be treated most of items medically promptly.
