In the Clinical Laboratory Procedures course, students are introduced to urinalysis, phlebotomy, hematology, chemistry, serology, and medical microbiology. They specifically focus on learning about specimen collection, handling, testing, and selected examinations. In this particular session of CLP, students were practicing their phlebotomy skills. Each of the students took turns preparing their materials and retrieving a blood sample from a patient. This took place after several sticks on a mannequin arm to allow them adequate time to practice their technique.
Each of the students did a wonderful job and earned their beads, a fun tradition for training medical assistants, for their first stick on a human. The room was filled with electric energy as the students celebrated this milestone in their pending medical careers. Interested in becoming a Clinical Medical Assistant?
