First published in 1893, being the third story in the collection of Sherlock Holmes exploits entitled The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, we find a case which gives the Baker St. consulting detective very little trouble. He is however, some critics have observed, a little less than ethical in dealing with his client at the denouement.

Nevertheless the story of Hosmer Angel is quite instructive as to the methods and character of Holmes.
