Fg Offr Avani joined Airforce Academy (Dundigal) in Jan 2015 & was commissioned in the flying branch of IAF In Jun 2016, along with Fg Offr Bhawna Kanth & Fg Offr Mohana Singh. She belongs to Rewa (MP). She did schooling from Deolond near Rewa & Graduated from Banasthali Vidyapeeth, Jaipur.
In Jul 2016, Avani started training on HAWK to join the Fighter Fleet of IAF. After completion of basic training, she went to AFS Kalaikunda for Air to Ground Armament & Air Combat training.
In Oct 2017 Fg Offr Avani joined the 23 Squadron (Panthers), a frontline fighter sqn of IAF. After completing the requisite ground training, she started flying MiG-21 Bison in Jan 2018. She became the first women pilot in IAF, to fly solo mission in Feb 2018, creating history.
