Hi Everyone!
My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. Today I am talking about allergic reactions in dogs. Allergic reactions in the dog are very common, and allergic reactions are far more common in the summer. All the bees, spiders, and insects outside can cause all kinds of various levels of allergic reactions.
The most common symptoms of an allergic reaction in a dog are the following: Facial or generalized superficial swelling, hives or red skin, very itchy, drooling, vomiting, and in more serious cases respiratory distress or lethargy.
The pet owner should call their veterinarian or go straight in to the veterinary office. The veterinarian will give an antihistamine like Benadryl injection and then give some to go home. Your veterinarian may also give a steroid injection to help resolve the allergic reaction.
After the allergic reaction in your dog has been corrected, talking to your vet about possible future allergic reactions and how to take manage them.
