The patient may experience B12 Deficiency as a result of the stomach cancer surgery because they will lose the valve that keeps food in the stomach as well as either their entire stomach or a sizeable portion of it.
The stomach secretes acid, which aids in iron absorption.
If part or all of the stomach is lost, the patient will become anaemic (iron deficient).
Food enters the intestine quickly when the valve is lost, which hinders calcium absorption and causes patients to develop calcium deficiency.
After stomach cancer surgery, vitamin B12, iron, and calcium need to be replaced.
