EN: As founder of The Bulldog, Henk de Vries is not only a living legend but also the owner of the first global cannabis brand in modern history. Since he started in 1975 in a basement on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam with The Bulldog, his brainchild has grown into an empire with global fame. Like no other, Henk de Vries put his stamp on the phenomenon that according to Professor Egbert Tellegen should have been proclaimed ‘the most important Dutch social innovation of the past half century’: the coffeeshop.
NL: Als oprichter van The Bulldog is Henk de Vries niet alleen een levende legende maar ook de eigenaar van het eerste wereldwijde cannabis merk in de moderne geschiedenis. Sinds hij in 1975 in een kelder op de Oudezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam begon met The Bulldog is zijn geesteskind uitgegroeid tot een imperium met mondiale faam. Als geen ander drukte Henk de Vries zijn stempel op het fenomeen dat volgens professor Egbert Tellegen al lang uitgeroepen had moeten worden tot ‘de belangrijkste Nederlandse sociale innovatie van de afgelopen halve eeuw’: de coffeeshop.
