An eight-year-old girl has been swept away in the Umsunduzi river in Peace Valley in Ashdown, Pietermaritzburg.
It's believed the child's mother was trying to cross a low-lying bridge while carrying her two-month-old baby. That's when her eight-year-old daughter was swept away in the fast-flowing river on Thursday afternoon. The incident comes after heavy rain began to fall over the province. Police and rescuers are continuing the search for the child.
