Donald Trump appeared to retract threats to Iranian cultural sites by stating he is “OK with” obeying international laws.
The US president was widely criticised for suggesting he would be willing to bomb protected areas, if Iran fulfilled its ominous pledge to seek “severe revenge” for the death of its top military commander.
Mr Trump said cultural sites were among 52 targets that could be attacked if Iranians were to "torture, maim and blow up" American people.
However, the UN’s cultural organisation, the British government and other world leaders were quick to remind the president that attacking such spots would breach international rules.
