Thanks to their intelligent navigation systems, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) bring an extra dimension to intralogistics. They are not dependent on markings in their surroundings and drive around obstacles, opening up a wide range of possibilities for material transport when combined with appropriate superstructures. An innovation project at the item European logistics centre has developed a base frame and rack structures for use with AMRs from Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR). As the autonomous mobile robots take care of transport tasks, staff are free to focus on work that adds value and the ergonomic solution also makes their jobs less physically demanding. Made from item profile technology, the modular constructions can be flexibly adapted for individual applications. The design work involved was particularly quick and easy thanks to the rules-based 3D design and intelligent automation of the item Engineeringtool.

Continuous improvement is a core element of the corporate philosophy at item. The first potential customers have already made an on-site visit to see this efficient new technology in action for themselves.
