Heading out to the mountains herping for venomous rattlesnakes and other reptiles and amphibians, Matt finds his lifer smooth green snakes. The adventure continues with appearances of the slimy salamander, milk and worm snakes, as well as a special mammalian guest! But the highlight of this trip was what we can only compare to a canebreak rattlesnake'
While other timber rattlesnakes were found, the light coloration on this one was stunning! These snakes have a wide range of color phases, they are all the same species. Most of the ones we find in western Maryland are dark or black phase. Canebreak is the name given to this species in the southeastern United States. These specimens are often very light or even grayish white, with a yellow band down their back. We encounter one at the end of this video that so closely resembled this that we had to call it a western Maryland Canebreak!
