This was a 4 day backpacking trip on the eastern side of the Superstition Wilderness in Arizona, January 2022. This place continues to blow my mind. I was there during one of those goldilocks moments where there's water everywhere but not deep enough to be annoying. This trip had just the right amount of adventure with about 70/30 well maintained trail / off-trail, route finding.
Starting from the Tule Trailhead, I climbed up to Two-Bar Ridge and followed the Arizona Trail far into the Reavis Valley. This hike is a doozy, with over 4800ft of elevation gain on the 1st day alone! From there, I did the Frog Tanks to Rogers Canyon loop eventually heading back up and over Reavis pass back down into Reavis Valley. I camped at Angel Basin in between. I have been within spitting distance of Angel Basin a number of times, but this is probably one of the more scenic, remote and underrated places in the Superstitions. Before hitting Angel Basin I was creek hiking along Fish Creek Canyon & lower Rogers Canyon where there's essentially no more trail after the fires of years past; it's just hiking in active flowing creek channels - kinda like Escalante in that regard. On the Reavis Saddle portion of the AZT, there are tall pines and tons of 5 star campsites.... Am I still in Arizona??
Eventually I made my way back out of Reavis and back to the car the same way I went in along Tule. Awesome trip.
