Samuel Willenberg, the last remaining survivor of the Treblinka Nazi death camp in Poland has died. The Jerusalem Post is reporting the former prisoner passed away at his Tel Aviv home aged 93.
Treblinka was one of the most notorious Nazi death camps. According to Israel's Holocaust Memorial, more than 800,000 Jews were killed there.
On August 2, 1943, a group of Jewish inmates decided to fight the Nazis and escape. Amongst them was Willenberg. Around 200 escapees were shot during the attempt but he managed to run away.
The Treblinka camp is now the site of commemorative engraved stones carrying messages such as "Never Again" and "Martyrs of the Warsaw Ghetto".
