Lyrics:
Thoughts.
In between tears, as I cry over over a watch
A watch I ain’t ever see and a watch I would never touch
A watch I found so surreal, yet a watch I would never clutch
A watch that makes me tick tick and tick but won’t ever let me talk
It told me
“Get yourself that green so’ I could you can buy yourself this clock”
“Invest more into this dream, sell your life away like stocks”
Ironic
How I was so fixated on getting this watch, that I’ve lost track of time
See the time I’m living in now, has been attached to dollar sign
So you pay me around 17 and an hour you will buy
Cuz I’m tryna buy...
Something that isn’t a Timex, Nixon, Casio, Movado, Armani, please
I’m talking Hublots,Seiko, Audemars, and Rolex, at least 30 g’s
I’m trying to walk around campus and be all
stunting and flossing,
ducking and dodging,
hands a flailing,
girls a flaunting,
Everything... a young man has ever wanted
But now as I lay here
I realize that I'm dying.
I’m crying tears over a watch
A watch I ain’t ever see and a watch I would never touch
See I cried and I cried, until the tears ran dry
Leaving marks on my face, like roots to a tree
I’d cry more tears, so they’d well up,
Drop past my face in between the cracks of the pavement,
So at least if died I could water these seeds
Out of the concrete would grew trees
I titled envy and greed
Bearing fruits tasting of supply and demand that told me to achieve this
I had to Completely neglect my moms and our situation it seems ...
See they base your rent of your pay so it seems like a good deal to you
But a single mother making $1,500 a month, will never see her debut
Keep up
400 a month is for your families food
300 is for the kids so they don’t go to that school
200 for cold winters, the cost of heat and the fuel
And you spend 500 a month for the same 3 bedrooms that barely fit you
Now that leaves you with 100 hundred, but what's that supposed to do
Because now you need to buy your son those pills cuz he came down with the flu
Or better yet
You buy your other son that watch he's been wanting
Because even though you don't got much , at least he can stunt at school
Then just when things are getting good you'll hear that
**turned around and changed tone of voice here**
Ring
Ring
Hello, this is internal revenue
We’ve noticed you’ve been smiling more lately, and we’ve been worried bout you
So we’ve raised your rent by 150, and now you’re 3 months past due
So this notice
Of your eviction
Shouldn’t really be news.
**turn back around**
Im certain by now you've caught and can feel
That this watch that I speak of, is no more than a dream
You're a consumer, so you are no more than an end to a means
And a mean that to me is just far too mean,
so take the average of your worth, and by the average, I mean the mean
And I just rhymed mean with mean in about a pair of a three
I mean the money you spent today, could've probably saved thirteen
The rest you tomorrow, about another eighteen
See Last night I woke up from a bad dream,
That I was trapped in the city and I asked is that really such a bad thing
They robbin' brothers on the daily
But can you blame a nigga that ain't ever had things
You see last night
They pulled up on
At the light like
NICE WATCH
RUN IT!
