(19 Apr 2020) As Orthodox Easter arrived amid confinement measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic, an ethnic Serbian man was among those spending the Eastern Christian holiday alone.
Miroslav Gucic, 50, is a Serb living in Dobbertin, a village 15 kilometers (10 miles) south of the Kosovan capital Pristina.
His family has remained in Serbia due to the lockdown in both countries, leaving him isolated for the festive day on Sunday.
Gucic, who works in the nearby commune of Lipjan, spent a day in the run up to Easter decorating traditional coloured eggs.
His two sons study at a high school in Kraljevo, a Serb city some 290 kilometers (180 miles) north of Pristina.
After visiting their sons, his wife Bojanav remained there too because of closed borders.
Kosovo is in a total lockdown with all land routes and air fights shut due to the virus, with people only permitted go out briefly only for essential supplies or for medical reasons.
Orthodox churches in Kosovo were empty during the Easter week and all services were held by priests and close staff with no believers present.
As of early Sunday Kosovo has reported 510 cases of the virus, while Serbia has declared 5,994 infections.
