Hovsan is an urban settlement in Surakhani district of Baku city . It is on the coast of the Caspian Sea. According to the local population, it was called Hovuzan because there were two pools in the village in the past. According to the sources, oikonim is composed of the word pool and the suffix -an, meaning "pools" or "pool place". According to some researchers, the name of the settlement comes from the Arabic word hisn (fortress, fortification).
