Note: Although there are many versions of this jingle available online, most appear to be of a recording that is being played too slow. I have sped up the audio slightly for a more natural sounding recording.
On September 4, 1922 station WLAG began broadcasting in Minneapolis, MN. The station would close in 1924, only to be bought by the Washburn Crosby Company (forerunner of General Mills) and renamed WCCO. On Christmas of 1926, WCCO aired the first ever pre-recorded jingle, an advertisement for their cereal “Wheaties”. This jingle proved immensely successful and paved the way for other companies to follow suit and create their own jingles.
