Mine Exploration and Hiking with Tom and Julie.
After a long Jeep ride up a canyon in Nevada we come to an old abandoned mine road. We hike up the road through the beautiful flower blooms to an area that looks like where a cabin once stood. The cabin is flat now, but there is a beautifully timbered portal just begging us to come in. We find a few artifacts around the tungsten mine cabin site and in the 600 foot long drift. According to our map there are several more mine adits higher up the mountain, so we hike up a very steep abandoned road to a huge dike standing vertically out of the ground. I'm sure this caught many a mining prospectors attention and caused a lot of picking and digging around the area. There are several waste rock piles scattered across the mountain top. Some are small drifts, some are eroded shut and one longer one was open. We were greeted at the portal by a couple piles of scat from a large animal. After making our way through the drift we came to the end where there are the remains of a bighorn sheep. It's obvious that a lion had dragged it's kill to the end of the drift for a place to peacefully eat and protect it. This is not the first time we have seen this, in fact it's not uncommon to find large animal kills in mines. We had a great day of hiking and mine exploring and hope that you enjoy the video.
