Using a model of the brain I learned from Stephen Parkhill, we discuss the brains and their functions using the movie "How To Train Your Dragon." The upstairs brains are about 10% of your capacity and the downstairs brains constitute about 90%. The upstairs brains are the intelligence, reasonable and rational part, like Hiccup. The downstairs brains have the power, like Toothless.

Dividing the two brains is a filter called the critical faculty. It prevents data that doesn't fit the paradigm from entering, which explains why positive affirmations tend to have zero to limited impact.
