An Air France Concorde took off from New York's Kennedy Airport on
Tuesday at 11:50 a.m. EDT (1550 GMT) in an attempt to shatter the
around-the-world speed record for a civil airliner flying from
west to east. The supersonic Anglo-French-built plane scheduled
stops in France, Dubai, Bangkok, Guam, Honolulu and Acapulco.
