Turkey's TB2 vs Indian DRDO's Rustom 2 Tapas UAV drones power comparison
TAPAS is known as Tactical Airborne Platform-Beyond Horizon-201 or TAPAS BH-201 for Aerial Surveillance. It is India's indigenous long-flying drone at medium altitude. It has been developed by India's Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE) on the lines of the US General Atomics MQ-1 Predator drone. The first flight of the Tapas UAV took place in November 2016. In October 2010, a senior DRDO official said that General Atomics had described the MQ-1 Predator as a benchmark for India's Rustom drone programme. After which the Defense Research and Development Organization started working on the Tapas drone. Just as the US converted the General Atomics MQ-1 Predator from surveillance to combat drone, India has also built the Rustom-H.
Tapas-BH-201 had recently set a big record by cruising continuously for 18 hours at an altitude of 28,000 feet. The Aeronautical Development Agency started work on medium altitude long-range drones about 10 years ago at a cost of Rs 1,540.74 crore. But in 2022, the budget of this program was increased to Rs 1,786 crore. TAPAS-BH-201 had made its first successful flight on 16 November 2016 at Challakere, 200 km from Bengaluru in Chitradurga district of the southern Indian state of Karnataka. After this, the take-off, landing and other parameters of this drone were tested several times. DRDO scientists are also working with a Coimbatore-based private firm on indigenous engines for Tapas. The drone is currently powered by Austria-made Austro engine, which comes with twin turbocharger. 75 percent of the parts of this drone are made in India.DRDO scientists claim that once inducted, Tapas will be about eight times cheaper than drones procured from abroad. The Bayraktar TB-2 drone is manufactured by the Turkish company Bayraktar Defense. The company is run by Selçuk Bayraktar, son-in-law of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. The Bayraktar TB-2 is a medium altitude long range drone. This drone was initially made for the Turkish military. The credit for the development of this drone is given to Selçuk Byraktar, an MIT student. As of 26 November 2021, the TB2 drone had completed 400,000 flight-hours globally. The Turkish military is the largest operator of the TB2 drones, but an export model has been sold to the armies of several other countries. Turkey has used drones extensively in attacks on Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and People's Protection Units (YPG) targets in Iraq and Syria.Turkey's Bayraktar TB2 is lightly armed. It can be fitted with four laser-guided missiles. Due to being radio guided, this drone can be operated in a range of 4000 km. This drone is capable of flying with a weapon of 150 kg. The TB-2 drone can hover in the air for 27 hours once taken off. This drone is equipped with an internal combustion ejection engine of 105 horsepower. The Bayraktar TB2 drone can fly at speeds ranging from 130 kmph to 222 kmph. Not only this, this drone can fly with a total weight of 700 kg. The wingspan of this drone is 12 meters and length is 6.5 meters, while the height from the ground is 2.2 meters. The Bayraktar TB2 is capable of flying at an altitude of 18000 to 25000 feet above sea level. The facility of real time imagery transmission is also available in this drone.
