Quick and dirty straight from the phone with no edits!
In this video I describe the process I went through to discover a shorted capacitor on the motherboard that was putting the power supply instantly into protect mode essentially leaving me with a dead system. All documentation I found for these doesn't get into this level of troubleshooting but simply says to replace the board once you prove your ps is good. I knew my ps was ok since it turned on and stayed on when disconnected and it also powered my SPARCstation 4 with no issues. I removed all other connections and cards to rules those out as well. I ended up discovering the shorted capacitor and after I lifted one leg of it from the board and have temporarily left it that way the system now boots and works. A replacement capacitor is on the way so I can put it back like it was.

I was almost at the point of tossing this thing until I thought to try to see if I could figure out what was putting the ps into shutdown so quickly. Hopefully this clip can help save someone out there the time I wasted!
