Computer Vision Syndrome or CVS. Computer has become an integral part of our day to day working conditions. Apart from the musculoskeletal problems associated with working on the computers. It can have varied associated eye and vision problems. CVS or Computer vision syndrome can present complex of eye and vision problems. People can present with frequent headaches associated with poor working conditions or some kind of stress, depression, anxiety. It can present with eye strain usually they say they are fatigued towards the end of the day. It can also present with dry eyes with tearing, burning, fluctuation of vision, foreign body or gravel sensation in the eye. When the person has dry eyes they can also present with all of these things, can present with itching, neck and shoulder and back pain. Office environment is low in humidity can cause dry eyes. In a normal subject without any visual target usually the head is upright and usually tilted about 13 degrees forward. If the monitors are placed straight ahead they have to assume a more erect and straight position. How do we prevent this computer vision syndrome? Position the screen 4-9 inches below your eye level so you gaze down and you prevent any strain on the neck. Place or locate the monitor about 20- 28 inches in front of you.
