From Hobby to Sweet Success: How a Teen Entrepreneur Built a Rs 1 Cr Chocolate Business During the Pandemic
Saraam was founded by Digvijay Singh. During the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, he (then 16) actively sought out new endeavours. His passion for chocolate led him to start learning how to make them.
With the support of his cousin Mahaveer Singh, Digvijay embarked on this journey without a concrete plan. Through YouTube tutorials and countless trials, he honed his skills and began sharing his homemade chocolates with loved ones. Initially self-funded, his venture started as a hobby, but positive feedback encouraged him to develop a business plan.
Inspired by a previous incident where chocolates were given as gifts, Digvijay decided to approach hotel owners and car showrooms to sell his creations. In 2021, Digvijay stumbled upon an eye-opening article that highlighted the extinction of lesser-known indigenous fruits. Noticing a gap in the market, where only mainstream fruits were commonly used, he took a leap of faith to introduce these unique flavours. This was also the year when he launched his artisanal chocolate brand Saraam.
In 2021 itself, Digvijay got his first 1000 orders from a car showroom owner, With Digvijay (now 19) as a self-taught chocolatier, the chocolate business has gained tremendous success, having sold over two tonnes of chocolates to numerous satisfied customers nationwide. The popularity of Saraam extends to cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Udaipur, and Jaipur.
According to The Better India, Saraam has earned a lifetime revenue of Rs 1 Cr. Since its inception, it has sold over 2 tonnes of chocolate.
