Looking at the urban architecture of Hanoi today, one can easily see the marks of successive historical periods. From the mossy roofs of the Old quarter to the elegant villas of the French quarter and the grids of identical collective housing built during the post-Independence era.
This collective housing is associated with a factory, whose products were behind many Hanoians' dreams of a peaceful and happy life: Hanoi precast concrete factory, also known as Chem concrete factory in popular parlance.
