The music is a joke. The whole thing began as a joke, really. I started speedrunning this game for laughs about a week ago, and here we are. After far too many hours put into routing the run, performing the run, and smoothing out the wrinkles (about three hours give or take), I decided I've put too much time into this damn game to just let the video collect dust on my computer. So here it is, in all of its quickness.
If anyone for some reason wants to try their hand at usurping the undisputed master of Garfield's Scary Scavenger Hunt, here's some tips:
-Diagonal movement isn't an intended feature, catch that drift by using both the arrow keys and the on screen movement keys at the same time.
-When using the arrow keys, you have to completely release one key before pressing another to prevent a ~.5 second pause where you can do nothing but sit there and wonder just how you've hit such a low point in your life. (You can see this happen around 0:48)
-Normally, Garfield pauses to pick up items. However, if you're holding one of the arrow keys down, he instead slides across the screen. This is really only used inconsequentially in this run, but it can be used for a tricky strat where you time the slide to slide into the adjacent room the same frame you collect the item. This has the potential to save a few seconds, but it's a lot riskier, since:
-If you slide into another room after clicking on an item but before it registers you as having the item, the game softlocks and you can't finish. This only happens for certain items (the blue key being the only one I specifically remember).
-In order to truly reset the game you have to refresh the whole page. Turn off adblock and think of it as a tithe to the glory of Jim Davis.
-There's a bunch of other smaller stuff too that would take forever to type out here (you can just ask me if you want to know).
And that's about it. Although this run has super messy movement and some bad rng, I'm not going to look to improve it unless someone else decides to start running this game. Timing starts when control is gained (fade in) and ends when the "Good Work" screen is reached. Eurobeat isn't required to run this game, but it's certainly recommended.
