Track Installation and Road Widening on Hurontario Street between Park Street and the QEW
July 2024 to June 2025
What work is taking place?
As construction on the Hazel McCallion Line Light Rail Transit progresses, communities in Mississauga South can expect the following construction activities in the coming months:
* The removal of hydro and telecommunication poles along the west side of Hurontario Street and the connection of new Alectra services to adjacent properties
* Grading changes to the adjacent boulevard and driveways to match the road elevations,
* Road widening activities on both sides of Hurontatio Street, to accommodate the construction of the guideway in the centre of the roadway later this year, and the construction of new sidewalks along the west side of the street and improvements to the multi-use pathway on the east side of the street. The guideway and tracks will be constructed through the Mineola intersection this summer along with the start of construction of the stop at Mineola.
* The installation of architectural finishes at Port Credit Station
* The completion of the flood walls at Mary Fix Creek
* The opening of a new east/west connection across Hurontario Street with a new signalized intersection at Eaglewood Boulevard; and
* The addition of new lanes for northbound traffic at the new QEW underpass
Most work is scheduled from Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will take place within the staged area separated by traffic barrels and temporary fencing. Temporary closures of roadways at intersections will be required to ensure that crews onsite are able to safely complete the work. Some overnight and weekend work may also be required. Additional notification will be provided when there is a requirement for a temporary road closure, overnight, or Sunday work. We will also communicate with individual property owners concerning potential property access requirements such as utility connections and temporary driveway closures for final restoration and boulevard grading. Additional signage will also be placed to inform motorists and pedestrians about any sidewalk closures or changes to traffic configuration.
As construction staging moves to the centre of the roadway for guideway, track, and LRT stop construction, we remind the motorists that permanent turning restrictions will be implemented to ensure the safe flow of traffic. This means that left turns will be restricted to signalized intersections. Entering and exiting properties along Hurontario Street will require motorists to make right turns.
