Welcome to the second in a two-part lesson on funky stickings funk drum beats. In this lesson you will learn how to play eleven new funk drum beats by applying snare drum accents to the funky sticking pattern, then, creating some great sounding two bar drum phrases.
"Funky Stickings" is a paradiddle based (RLRR-LRRL) sticking pattern used by Tower of Power's David Garibaldi and other drum legends to create incredibly funky beats. The pattern has also been referred to as the "King Kong Beat". Whatever you want to call it, it's a fun pattern to play, it works well in numerous musical settings and it sounds great!
