This Episode: Unboxing and Review of the Adeptus Mechanicus Vanguard Detachment for Warhammer 40K, featuring Kastelan Robots, a Tech-Priest Dominus and Cybernetica Datasmiths.
--------------------------------------------------
From Games Workshop:
The Adeptus Mechanicus are the faithful disciples of the Machine God, wielding arcane technology to annihilate the enemies of Mankind. Towering Kastelan Robots stride across the battlefield guided by the arcane commands of Cybernetica Datasmiths, while the Tech-Priest Dominus coordinates front-line tactics and extols war-psalms as he visits destruction upon the foe.
The Adeptus Mechanicus Vanguard Detachment is comprised of the following, separately available, multipart plastic kits:
Tech-Priest Dominus (Supplied with a Citadel 50mm Round Base)
The masters of the Cult Mechanicus, the Tech-Priests Dominus have a prodigious talent and hunger for war. Their minds are filled by a constant stream of information - bullet trajectories, optimal artillery arcs, las-pack capacities - and they leverage this information to visit destruction upon the enemy with every command issued from their cybernetically-enhanced forms.
This miniature cuts an imposing figure augmented to the point of being almost entirely cybernetic. His insectile metal legs and various extra arms lend him an air of alienation, and his two interchangeable heads mean he can be customised to fit both Cult Mechanicus and Skitarii images. He features an impressive array of weapons; included is a volkite blaster, a macrostubber, an eradication ray, a phosphor serpenta and a power axe - this is his badge of office, and is detailed with a microphone and loudspeaker.
This multi-part, twenty component plastic kit contains everything needed to make one Tech-Priest Dominus, and is supplied with one Citadel 50mm Round Base.
Kastelan Robots (Kastelan Robots, each supplied with a Citadel 60mm Round Base. Includes Cybernetica Datasmiths, each supplied with a Citadel 32mm Round Base.)
A huge, ancient robot built ten thousand years ago, the Kastelan Robot is a perfect example of the Adeptus Mechanicus’ repurposing of technology. Nearly unstoppable, their only flaw is that of any mere machine; they will follow instructions to the letter, even if this results in their own demise. A specialist Tech-Priest - the Cybernetica Datasmith - must constantly update and reprogram the Kastelan via order dataslates, lest this enormous, clanking robot simply strides blindly into a nearby chasm. Make no mistake, however; when his controls are set to destroy, the Kastelan will destroy.
This ninety-five component multi-part plastic kit contains everything you need to make two Kastelan Robots and one Cybernetica Datasmith. The Kastelan Robots are armed to where their teeth would be if they had teeth - options include two sets of power fists, two sets of twin-linked phosphor blasters and a choice of carapace-mounted weaponry (incendine combustor or yet another phosphor blaster - two of each are supplied). The Cybernetica Datasmith is armed with a gamma pistol, dataspike and a servo arm assembly featuring a rivet gun. A prehensile socket drill allows him to reprogram the Kastelan Robots on-the-fly. He also features a choice of two heads.
The Kastelan Robots are supplied with two Citadel 60mm Round Bases, and the Cybernetica Datasmith includes one Citadel 32mm Round Base.
Warhammer 40,000 rules for these units can all be found in Codex: Adeptus Mechanicus, while a pdf with their Apocalypse datasheets can be downloaded for free from Warhammer40000.com/Apocalypse/Datasheets
