Užupis is dotted with street murals and installations like a bronze angel, a riverbank mermaid sculpture, and the tongue-in-cheek constitution of the self-proclaimed “Republic of Užupis,” mounted on wall plaques. Artists’ studios line narrow streets alongside local-designer boutiques, hip cafes, and global eateries. Leafy Bernardine Cemetery, the burial place of numerous eminent locals, dates from 1810.
