For this project, I wanted to incorporate Moby’s “New Dawn Fades” in LA Takedown since Vincent Hanna doesn’t pursue Neil/Patrick in his car before the diner scene. In the beginning of LA Takedown, there is a short montage of Hanna out on the prowl and pursuing leads that I thought would be perfect for New Dawn Fades. It’s such a memorable track from Heat that I could not leave it out.
I'll start by saying, Michael Mann's HEAT is my favorite movie of all time. To me, it's a perfect film in every way. I will also say, without shame that I own 11 different copies of Heat across multiple formats! In 1989, Michael Mann directed a made for TV film called LA Takedown which he has referred to as his prototype for his future film which was made into Heat. Given the small budget, it is difficult to have seen Heat and go on to watch LA Takedown but after multiple viewings, it is a lot of fun to watch. LA Takedown has grown on me a lot over the years and I love pointing out scenes from it that would be remade later on. As of right now, the film only exists on VHS and DVD although the DVD seems to be a direct rip of a VHS copy. Finally, the actor playing Vincent Hanna here is Scott Plank who tragically died in a car wreck in 2002 at the age of 43. The film "Holes" in which he starred is dedicated to him. Hope you enjoy!
