On October 12th, 1992, as the world marked the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's discovery of the Americas, AF 1492 embarked on its own historic journey. Departing from Lisbon at 8 a.m., the aircraft raced around the globe, stopping in Santo Dominguo, Acapulco, Honolulu, Guam, Bangkok, Bahrain before touching down back in Lisbon, a mere 32 hours and 49 minutes later. The feat set the world record for the fastest round-the-world flight, and it remains unbroken to this day for the westbound circumnavigation.
The Concorde outran the setting sun for the entire journey, never leaving the light of day.
This video, taken by a passenger, offers a firsthand perspective of the entire journey.
