Avatar : The Last Airbender ( also known as the Avatar : The Legend of Aang in several countries 1 ) is the first animated series to be nominated for an Emmy for season 3 premiere ( season ) , currently aired on Nickelodeon . Taking place in one world oriental style with a combination of martial arts and magic control elements , content story revolves around the adventures of Aang , Avatar and last of his friends on the way to save the world in the hands of the United Nations ( Fire Nation ) . Both series were written as one long period novel , with each episode being called back ( chapter ) and 1 season premiere ( season ) is called book ( book) . Projectors arranged in November 2004 but Avatar : The Last Airbender official only appeared on TV on February 21, 2005 and the final episode was aired on September 17 this year . The DVD of the premiere season, along with a download of the episode can be found on the iTunes Store and Xbox Live Marketplace . Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko is the creator and series producer responsible . Avatar : The last Airbender is rated very high in the ranks of cartoons aired on Nick , even though it is only classified as intended for ages 6 to 11 . Avatar : The Last Airbender has quickly become familiar with both audiences and critics , the final episode alone drew over 5.6 million viewers .
