Gynecologic oncologist Dr. Scott Richard describes how clinical trials are designed to minimize risk and how you can learn about the benefits and risks before deciding to join a trial. He discusses the role of a data safety monitoring board and talks about different ways that researchers, institutional review board members and others ensure the research is done objectively and watch for any side effects.
