India Meteorological Department scientist Dr Somenath Dutta gave updates on cyclone ‘Remal’ that is expected to hit the coastal areas of West Bengal on May 24. He further informed about the districts that will be impacted by the cyclone and also assured that it will not affect the election procedure on May 25. Speaking to ANI, Dr Somenath Dutta said, “The cyclone will hit the coast of Bangladesh and its adjoining coasts on the midnight of May 26... It will cross the coast as a severe cyclonic storm. Post forming the cyclone it will be named ‘Remal’. The coastal districts like South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, and East Midnapore will have an immediate effect. Along with these districts, Howrah, Hooghly, and Kolkata will also experience the effects of the cyclone. We have issued national bulletin regarding the Cyclone.”
On the effect of the cyclone on the Lok Sabha elections on May 25, he said, “It has been told that the cyclone will not affect the election procedure in West Bengal on May 25... There will be no such effect to disturb the election procedure, at the most, we may get rain there...”
