So where do Ahmad Teas’ tea come from?
Well, tea grows all over the world and we’re always travelling around looking for new sources, new different, exciting types of tea.
In terms of world production, there are actually four main players – two very large producers. The largest producer is China. And China, they produce tea all over this South Eastern part of the country, mostly making green tea.
The second biggest producer is India. India produces tea up here in the North and also a little bit down here in the South. So those are both very big producers, but they also consume most of the tea, which they produce.
So, when we talk about exports into the world market, actually the biggest exporter of tea in the world is Kenya. And they specialise in making CTC tea, which is a type of tea designed to go into a teabag and the next biggest producer is Sri Lanka, who produces Ceylon tea. They specialise in the Orthodox style of manufacture, which is designed for loose leaf tea.
So, those four origins would actually form the backbone of our blends.
