(21 Dec 2017) ACTIVIST FROM PUSSY RIOT SENTENCED TO 40 HOURS' COMMUNITY SERVICE
Maria Alyokhina, a member of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot, was sentenced to 40 hours of community service after she staged a protest action outside the Russian security services building.
On Wednesday (20 DEC. 2017), Alyokhina was detained by police after she unfurled a banner that read "Happy Birthday, Hangmen!" outside the Moscow headquarters of the FSB.
She spent a night at the police station.
On December 20, the Russian secret services marked the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Bolshevik secret police, the Cheka, which transformed into KGB afterwards.
The Federal Security Service, or FSB, is the main KGB successor agency.
