"The Wedding Song (There Is Love)" was written by Noel "Paul" Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary - although Stookey credits the song to divine inspiration. He first performed the song at the wedding of Peter Yarrow to Mary Beth McCarthy at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Willmar, Minnesota. Stookey was best man at the ceremony, which took place in the evening of October 18, 1969. Stookey recorded "The Wedding Song (There Is Love)" for his solo album, which was released on July 23, 1971. The song reached No. 24 on the Hot 100 in Billboard and reached No. 3 on the Easy Listening chart. It has since been recorded by many singers and remains a popular choice for performance at weddings.
