The Long Beach Police Department celebrated the opening of its new East Division Substation, 3800 E. Willow Street, on Saturday, February 20.
More than 100 residents were treated to a free open house and tours of the facility.
The Substation is located at the site of a former U.S. Army Reserve Center that was renovated to feature a multi-purpose community room, public waiting and reception areas, and an elevator to provide ADA accessibility.
The facility will house East Patrol Division officers and Juvenile Investigation detectives, and includes office space, renovated locker areas, showers, restrooms, and gym facilities.
The facility has many sustainable features, including interior and exterior LED lighting; window glazing to improve internal building temperature; a cool roof (white roof) to reduce the heat island effect; native and drought tolerant plants; and water saving fixtures. The renovation also met the City’s construction recycling requirements.
The East Division will start moving into the new substation in the days following the Open House. The current East Division Substation on Los Coyotes Diagonal near the Traffic Circle is undersized and outdated.
At 24 square miles, the East Division is the largest of three geographical patrol divisions in Long Beach. It is bounded by Del Amo Boulevard to the north; the Pacific Ocean to the south; the Orange County border to the east; and Cherry Avenue and the City of Signal Hill to the west.
